How does registering a car imported from Poland work in France?

In France, every owner of an imported car must complete all the formalities for registering the vehicle and replacing the registration certificate with a new one within a month.

How do I register a vehicle imported from abroad?

In France, as of 6 November 2017, the car registration procedure has been exclusively online. This used to be possible at the French prefecture, but this entity is no longer responsible for the official registration of vehicles. Therefore, you must register your car and apply online for a new certificate via the ANTS website. If you miss the critical deadline for vehicle registration by even a few days from the car’s purchased date, you will have to pay a fine ranging from €350 up to €750!

The registration of a new or used imported car can be done in two ways:

1. Register and apply for a new registration certificate for a purchased used or new car through the website, officially authorised to register imported vehicles (Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés).

2. Use the services of Guichet Carte Grise – a company offering a 24-hour intermediary service for registering imported used vehicles, accredited by the Ministry of the Interior. With this solution, paperwork time is kept to a minimum, and you can receive your new registration certificate 48 hours after providing all the required documents.

What documents are required when registering an imported car in France?

The range of documents required for registration varies depending on the condition of the imported vehicle (new or used car). For new cars that are imported from Poland, the documents needed for registration in France are:

• valid residential address (must be valid up to 6 months from the date of the transaction),

• application for the issue of a new vehicle certificate using a duly filled out CERFA 13750 form,

• a VAT invoice confirming the purchase of the car from the dealer,

• other documents, e.g. vehicle card, confirmation of payment of excise duty, confirmation of third party liability insurance,

Cerfa 13757 mandate necessary to complete vehicle registration formalities (in the case of a delegated process e.g. Guichet Carte Grise.

However, please note that the steps to obtain a registration certificate differ from the classic application for a change of ownership in the vehicle registration certificate or first registration.

Do you want to apply for a new certificate for an imported and used car from Poland in France? To do so, you will need the following documents:

• valid residential address (must be valid up to 6 months from the date of the transaction),

• vehicle registration application form – Cerfa 13750,

• proof of a valid technical inspection conducted no more than 6 months prior (the technical inspection must have been carried out in France or Poland, or any other EU country) and technical proof of the car’s compliance (in the absence of a vehicle registration certificate),

• other documents, e.g. proof of payment of excise duty, third-party liability insurance policy,

• proof of tax payment, e.g. in the form of a fiscal receipt for a car imported from Poland,

• a correctly filled out Cerfa Form 13757 if you delegate the car’s registration to, for example, another company such as Guichet Carte Grise.
